The history of Riesling in Baden begins in 1782, when Baron Göler von Ravensburg is said to have received his first Riesling vines from the Margrave of Baden. The baron then brought these seedlings safely to Sulzfeld in his hussar's cap to plant them on the slopes of his castle. In doing so, he not only founded the Baden Riesling tradition, but also gave the vineyard its name: HUSARENKAPPE. To this day, vines grow here on the more
200 million years old gypsum keuper rock, Rieslings of fascinating personality grow here to this day. The vineyards are located on the south-western flank at the foot of Ravensburg Castle and “look out” over the village of Sulzfeld. Directly below is an abandoned gypsum quarry from the 18th century.
