Unique, dense, biting, earthy, dark berry
Goes well with game and wild fowl, lamb, pepper steak, strong ragout dishes and spicy cheese.
The vineyard owes its name to an 18th century lord of Ravensburg castle, known as “Dicker Franz”, who was very open to culinary delights. Since then, the site has been known for its characteristic blue Franconian wine (Lemberger). Blaufränkisch is said to have been planted there for the first time after the Thirty Years' War. It was therefore one of the first wines of this grape variety in Germany.
The vineyards are located on the south-western flank directly below Ravensburg Castle, with a gradient of up to 35 percent, and “look” towards the village of Sulz-feld. The south-south-west exposure allows sunshine until sunset, as well as excellent protection from cold easterly winds, but very good ventilation from the west. The deep soils are characterized by mineral gypsum keuper.
