The wines that the Hussarenkappe site produces are defined by a special shelf life and a fascinating character. The wine shows a strong straw yellow, an intense, tension-laden minerality and spicy fruit on the nose, slightly smoky, salty, very complex. The palate is dense, full-bodied, with beautiful richness and a ripe fruit of honey apple, lemon zest, orange and sweet grapefruit. Distinctively strong character with an elegant finish.

To poached and fried fish, white meat, salads, vegetables and Asian cuisine.

GROSSE LAGE identifies wines from the best vineyard sites.
The name of the site is closely linked to the birth of Baden Riesling: in 1782, Riesling seedlings were "imported" from the Rhine for the first time by the Margrave of Baden for his vineyards. Baron Göler von Ravensburg, then a major in the Baden Hussar Regiment, is said to have received vines from these seedlings for his vineyards on the Burgberg of Ravensburg, brought them on horseback to Sulzfeld well protected in his cap, and thus founded the monopollage Husarenkappe.
Over 50 year old vines are rooted in 220 million year old unique gypsum keuper rock. The grapes are gently harvested by hand, carefully sorted and slowly pressed after a juice skin contact time of several days.
